My research examines the social implications of new media, particularly social network sites such as Facebook. The predominant theme is how these services affect users’ social networks and the social resources they have access to by virtue of their social ties, as well as how the design of these technologies can maximize the social benefits of use.

This research has been featured in popular media outlets such as NPR, Mashable, CNN, and The Guardian, and has received awards from The International Communication Association, The American Sociological Association, and The Association of Internet Researchers.
